Raspberry Pi 3, now what

So I finally decided to buy a raspberry pi 3 the other day. Loaded an OS from the NOOBS menu (Raspian I think), but trying to figure out what to do next.

So what all have you guys done with your Raspberry Pi's.

Someone at work suggested getting several and making a Maria or Mongo DB cluster. No thanks, don't need that, lol.

my homie built me one and it has all the original nes, snes, sega, Atari, neo-geo and other shit on it.

Several small mail/web/ftp servers just playing around
HoneyPot (Kippo)
Sprinkler System controller (Opensprinkler)
Controller for smoking on my BGE (HeaterMeter) - left this one together and still use it.
FlightAware ADS-B receiver - this one is still up and running as well.

There are tons of cool projects out there ...

how much does this cost and can you use old school style controllers?

I've got usb snes looking controllers that I use on the pi and laptop. They're about $10 each on Amazon.

I used mine to detect motion in the garage to flash the lights in my office so I know when to alt-f4 my porn.

I'm also working on a LED strip controlled through the raspberry pi so its WAY cheaper than doing my hue lights. Its also hue compatible though so I can control it through the app.

I was using these for lightning effects on a cosplay thunderfury jackie made for me.

Also, you'd be better off buying one of the new Nintendo NES systems, USB is a soft interrupt which makes a cpu cycle lag when using a USB controller. I could not play any of the emulation games for shit because the timing was off on everything. Sure were talking about a processor that does I believe 1 interrupt check per millisecond, but NES games were all about timing, at least the more difficult ones were and combining that with other processes that need CPU time, it caused me too much frustration.

Unless you're doing speed runs in games, I'm sure the usb controllers are fine.
