  • Mobile wifi for my bigrig?

I'm wanting to get some sort of mobile wifi setup for my truck so I can use one of those fancy slingbox/fire stick/roku devices for tv access instead of dropping serious money on a satellite system.

Problem is I dont have a clue as to what to search for, or even wtf im looking at when I find something. I've let myself get tech dumb over the years, so that doesn't help any.

Any ideas or suggestions would be very helpful.

If you're wanting something to have access while you're away from a Hotspot, you're gonna pay through the nose for the data consumption with a mobile provider. There's no way around it short of using a Tmo phone with Miracast and using their BingeOn deal that zero rates all those streaming video sites. The catch is it's 480p, but you'll not use any of your data allocation. The Miracast portion will let you cast the screen to a TV/monitor via Chromecast or the TV natively supporting screen mirroring.

So in other words, sticking to my ota antenna and saving up for a satellite system is my best bet for quality tv on the road without jumping through a bunch of hoops and dealing with T-blow and all that other stuff you said that I didn't quite understand.

      Right? lol

Yeah the problem with streaming is that a lot of data, bandwidth and low latency is needed. None are highly probable with any mobile setup.

Other options are to find ways to download the shows you like to a laptop and just use that to watch TV on. The easiest method is technically illegal and cannot be discussed on here though.

If you've used them w/poor experience in the past, I'd give em another shot. They've made hella improvements in the last 3yrs. The screen mirroring via Miracast is stupid simple.

With the Tmo binge on, he can watch all that stuff at a lower quality(picture) and it won't be an issue.

I would recommend using PlexPass account and downloading your content locally transcoded on the device. Worked great for me on my flights to/from Switzerland.
