  • I hate you Computer!

Just annoying when you know something's not right with your PC and you can't find out wtf is going on.

It's just running slower than normal, I try to run Mal-ware full scan and it keeps stopping part way through with a windows error that it has stopped working. I tried to run Combofix twice today and each time I clicked on it I got the blue screen of death!

But of course Norton 360 Premier says everything is fine & dandy

download VEW by Vino Rosso http://images.malwareremoval.com/vino/VEW.exe
and save it to your desktop

Double click it to start it Note: If running Windows Vista or Windows 7 you will need to right click the file and select Run as administrator and click Continue or Allow at the User Account Control Prompt.

Click the check boxes next to Application and System located under Select log to query on the upper left

Under Select type to list on the right click the boxes next to Error and Warning Note: If running Windows Vista or Windows 7 also click the box next to Critical (not XP).

Under Number or date of events select Number of events and type 20 in the box next to 1 to 20 and click Run

Once it finishes it will display a log file in notepad, paste the contents in your reply.

Copy and paste its entire contents back here.

Nothing is learned by doing that.

You mean you have no confidence in someone's ability to learn how to diagnose and repair one.

I appreciate the lesson in computer diagnosis, even at another person's expense. ;-)

Yea, pretty much unless it's a quick hitter. The problem is usually the same. "my computer is running like shit + virus/spyware".

I've seen your posts for years now and I respect them and the fact that you are willing to help people. While I'm sure it may help drastically, I just don't like the over use of software to fix other software problems.

I'm a minimalist. I use a very minimal layers of security on my own machine other than PeerBlock to keep my ass from getting arrested. My crap runs like Usain Bolt made it. No windows updates, no firewall, no windows defender, no access content control diapers.

When someone describes their computer problems to me, I get a mental image of crabs with top hats dancing on a top banana split STD sundae.
It must be cleansed with fire, which is why I offer the backup and start all over approach.

it's not a bad idea to leave windows updates on for most people. i just don't like them. they offer me nothing and historically have a track record of slowing down your computer.
