  • Gigabit speed test

Could someone do a speed test downloading a 200M file from here?
http://testmy.net/download or another site that downloads a true large file? We have gigabit but are only seeing a download of 77Mbps. My ISP says these test are flawed as he is only seeing what I am seeing or worse.

Edit: If testmy.net is hosted at SoftLayer, this test will be skewed, because I work at SoftLayer.

I will have access to 1 gig internet speeds tomorrow. This is from a ISD with 200mbps up/down, and averaging 150Mbps on this pipe.

Yes it does say softlayer. Is there a better test?

I'm assuming this is ATT Gigapower? If so, try out their speed test. http://www.att.com/speedtest/

No, he's saying because he works for the test host, it's not gonna be accurate. WHat it's showing for you should be right, unless there's a problem with the test.

Edit: On my 75/75 FiOs w/one active plex stream and crashplan goin both ways(I'm receiving a backup and sending to their servers).

Right, the test won't be accurate if that test server is located in SoftLayer's network, because my workstation is within that network.

Also, if your route is going through some networking equipment that is at capacity or doesn't support gigabit connections, then you're not going to get full gigabit speeds.

No. I am on Nortex Gigabit in Gainesville. This is from that test.
Your Test Results (Tested on 5/23/2016, 402 PM)
Download Speed 723.76 Mbps (90470.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed 96.93 Mbps (12115.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
                    Latency 7 ms
                    Jitter 0 ms

If I download the large 1Gig file from http://www.thinkbroadband.com/download/ it takes 8:33, transfer rate is 1700-1900KB/s. If I go straight to the router it shows the same too and the email from the IPS guy says he is seeing the same results and the test are flawed.

The ISP had a guy come out with one of the other guys laptops since his tested slow at the office but one of the others was faster. Plugged directly into the switch it pulled 860Mbps. I have several pc that will pull 200 or so but my office is at 77 max speed. It shows a gigabit connection and I just reinstalled Win7 yesterday. It is an I5 3570k, Asrock Mb, 8G ram, Samsung pro SSD.
Today I brought my NUC from home and tried it with the same office connection. 550Mbps. It is an I5, 16G ram,Samsung 950 pro M.2 SSD.

I did install all the latest lan drivers and chipset, ect yesterday on the office pc. Any suggestions?

Maybe you need to play with the NIC settings.

                            full duplex etc

If you have any quality of service options, I would suggest disabling as they add substantial overhead for any kitchen sink cpu. Also try plugging your computer directly to the internet to bypass any router or firewall rules that might be in place.

Also that site ( testmy ) random data test is going to be limited by the remote hosts speed on creating random data, I would recommend using netflix or speedtest.net to get more accurate results.

How fast is your download speed? In seconds, FAST.com's simple Internet speed test will estimate your ISP speed.
