  • Windows 7/8/10 opinions

So I'm lazy, and don't want to build a computer, so looking on Newegg for a system. Many have Windows 8, some 10, and a few with 7. I prefer 7, for known compatibility with shit I use. I heard Windows 8 does not work well with my offices VPN client for some reason, but not sure why, and have not checked into why or if it can be "fixed" with some upgrade/patch/plugin.

Any way, do you have any pro/cons for any Windows OS?

I'm not doing much, so no crazy graphics needed for gaming, etc., just basic surfing, and work shit most of the time.

I'm loving Windows 10. Leaps and bounds better than 8 and even 8.1. Your VPN probably works with 7, because your company is too cheap to upgrade their out of date VPN appliances :P

Yeah, it works fine with 7. Probably spend too much money on those damn Dell contractors, fuckers are everywhere!

What issues are you seeing? I "heard" 10 has driver issues, like shit is not supported yet.

            Windows 10 blows.

            I'll keep running 7.

I only use Windows 7. Not a fan of Windows 8. Windows 10 driver detection can be problematic leading to a lot of frustration.

Win 10 all the way. Never had a problem with it.

DirectX 12 is a Windows 10 Exclusive, if you play games on you work PC.

I've had problems with 10, and in the past I recommended people wait. After the first cumulative update, I have no major problems.

                    Now in JAPAN!

Japan's NTT Data Corp said on Monday it has agreed to buy Dell Inc's information technology consulting division for over $3 billion to expand in North America and bolster its services business. The move will allow U.S. computer maker Dell to trim some of the $43 billion in debt it is taking on to fund its pending cash-and-stock acquisition of data storage provider EMC Corp, a deal worth close to $60 billion. The sale will also offer NTT Data, one of the world's largest technology services companies, a bigger foothold in the United States, where it is looking to expand in healthcare IT, insurance and financial services consulting.

Curious as well since the general google search opinions of 10 are all over the place. Figure I'll run 7 until I get a new PC after awhile. However, I am still curious if people like it or not. Unsure the real advantages for my situation to 10 as opposed to the stable W7 OS. Of course, I ran XP for waaaay longer than I should have as well.

Not sure what issues people are seeing, other than running 10 on underpowered hardware. but I run it on my desktop at home (i7 - 16GB - GTX970 - ssd), my desktop at work (Xeon v3 - 16GB - Quadro), my work laptop (i7 - 16GB - 4k screen - ssd), and my Surface Pro 3 with no issues with drivers, or anything else really. It'been the most stable OS I've run on desktops/notebooks in a very long time.

Now all of these are newer hardware (less than a year old), so maybe that's why I'm not seeing issues.

I loathed 8 and 8.1. We converted the wife's laptop from 8.1 to 10 and I like it better. But I don't like it enough to covert my 7 to 10. I'll keep my 7 until Microsoft forces 10 on me.

Mircosoft's lofty claims of how many people have switched to 10 are only because they're forcing many desktops to 10.

Worse still, Microsoft is quietly admitting that it’s pushing Windows 10 on eligible Windows 7 and 8.1 PCs through Windows Update as a “Recommended” update instead of “Optional.” That means, if you’ve set your PC to automatically install Recommended patches, Windows Update will automatically download and install Windows 10.
