I recently restored my computer because it was acting really odd, about a month ago. It started running slow about a week ago... and today my internet explorer stopped working and when it checked for problems. This is what it said caused the problem...

I have Microsoft Security essentials, but it has never alerted me of anything, and my other computer has gotten alerts, so I am not even sure if it works right on my comp.

install google chrome and use that instead of internet explorer.

uninstall microsoft security essentials. also uninstall any other antivirus anti spyware programs you may have.
install avira (free version)

perform update and let it scan.

install malwarebytes (free version)

perform update and let it scan.

I hadn't gotten around to doing anything yet and ran a full scan with MSE... go figure it actually found something for once. Odd thing is, the file it found as a threat was some sort of java file....??

On the contrary, infected Java cache is very common. Java is one of the most exploited and frequently used vectors of infection. Dl and install Ccleaner then under the applications tab, make sure Java is checked the run it. Next, update Java then run a quick s an witj Malwarebytes.

Do I analyze...then do run cleaner? When I clicked run cleaner, it said it would permanently delete files??

Run Ccleaner then scan with Malwarebytes.

By running Ccleaner, you're deleting all temp files including the Java cache, provided you checked it as instructed, where you stated MSE found an infection.



Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

• Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
• At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
• If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
• Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
• Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
• When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
