4K monitor recommendations

A 4k monitor has the resolution of four 1080 monitors. There are benefits other than video and games to having dense resolutions. You can probably get by with just one monitor instead of two. I dont know why people think they need two monitors anyway, I still sport just one.

I have a 4k and also a 1080P TV and don't see any significant difference on them two. Ive played Xbox games, Netflix and chill and the 4k looks as good as the 1080P. Regreting on buying it, but too late now. YOLO!!

Netfix and Xbox won't be in native 4k. Your just seeing 1080p picture on a nicer screen. What model number 4k TV do you have?

Bringing this back up. Just bought a GTX980 and I am considering getting a 4k monitor. Anyone have one they replaced or are thinking about replacing soon they want to let go of?

That's because you're weird.

It all has to do with workflow and use case. I used multiple displays because I do a lot of work with spreasheets and large visios. I work better when I can see everything. I would keep my email and chat on one display while keeping my work on another. Sometimes I use visio to create illustrations for a powerpoint presentation and I find it best to spread them across two screens.

This is why I love this 34" screen so much. I can fit everything on it. I can even split the screen between my surface pro 4 and my Macbook pro. I then just use Synergy so I a common mouse and keyboard.

The big deal on 4K is screen size. If you are sticking with 36-60" displays at 4K, then I think it's just a waste of effort. Sure the resolution is better but you'd have to get up really close to notice the difference. To really take advantage of 4K, you need to get a much bigger screen. My next TV will be 70" at a minimum. I'm only holding off because support for 4K is still growing. When they start offering first run movies in the home, in 4K, then I'm pulling the trigger. I'm sick of going to the theater.

Since this is a 4k monitor thread, it should be mentioned that 4K is very useful and very apparent in a 28" computer monitor. I would not want a screen any bigger for PC use. I also have a 4K TV which is 70", and that's also pretty much a necessity if you plan on sitting further than 6 feet away. I have a gaming PC in my living room that runs just about every current game at 4k. There are plenty of movies and TV shows available in 4k now as well. 4k is worth it if you appreciate high detail, especially in gaming. Film movies at 4k do look better, but the limitation of film combined with noise is much more apparent. 4k really shines with movies and tv shows shot on digital cameras, like breaking bad and better call saul, they look incredible at 4k.

I have one monitor on my desk at home for gaming. At work, I have my Macbook Pro and two additional 1080p monitors (because my company is cheap when it comes to peripherals). I absolutely need all three monitors to spread all the different programs I use across them, otherwise it's a fucking madhouse of trying to find what window is where.

I hear the GTX1080s are running doom at 200 fps, but at 1080p. That should translate in a very good 4k experience with just a medium grade card. Yesterday I had a customer schedule a build where he specifically wants me to camp a GTX1080 and is paying almost double for the leg work. When I get it in I'll let you really know how pascal is going to do with 4k. I'll get a new titan here soon eventually too but those are literally impossible to e-camp and it will be much later this year.
