  • Ultrawide monitors???

Anyone here use a 21:9 format ultrawide monitor? I ordered this yesterday to replace my 27 inch monitor when it went on sale for $270. Anyone prefer theirs, or wish they hadn't?

    Here's a side by side of a 16:9 27 next to a 21:9 ultrawide:

I saw a code monkey using one of these at work today and wondered where the fuck he got it. Your timing is amazing. I mean it makes a lot of sense for software boys, and its even more awesome to see them standing vertical like a full body mirror.

Actually...it would also work well for downhole tools, completions and well surveys.

My main reason was 2 fold:
IPS, and larger viewing angle in games I play. At that price, I couldn't refuse.

I have one of the crossover 21:9 monitors in a spare room.

I bought it after watching this video.

I have a 21:9 3440x1440p monitor and its fantastic. Given its slow at only 60hz, its still an amazing monitor for anything. I bought it to replace a 3 monitor 144 hz 1080p nvidia surround setup.

Gaming at 21:9 looks to not be stretched and distorted unlike gaming on surround. On surround 90% of games stretch the monitors outer edges and warp the peripherals. Getting used to 60hz from 144hz was the biggest setback, but I was used to it after a day. Subsequentally I did buy a 2560x1440 Korean overclockable monitor because I was so scared that 60hz would be annoying and I was able to get the qx2710 to 120hz. But, I found myself just using it as a display monitor only so I sold it and just kept the 21:9 1440p and 4k monitor.

That being said, most of the 21:9s have bad IPS glow and backlight bleed for the 1440p monitors. I cherry picked mine out of 10 returns and even with the 10th, I felt it wasn't perfect but I kept it and don't regret it. Although, it will be replaced when the 144hz Acer 3440x1440 comes out. Just because I have the power to push most games past 100 fps @ 5 millionpixels and 60hz is a limitation to SLI setups. Also selling my 980s once the 980tis become more available and plan on SLIing them.

The 1440p 21:9 are pricey although.. I believe I paid 1g and they are still hovering around that price.

So anyone looking for an LG34um95p or EVGA GTX GTX 980s ACX 2.0s in the near future PM me. I'd like to sell local if possible just to avoid headaches of shipping.

I'd be interested in knowing what you'd like to let one of those 980's go for.

Well I want to see what they are selling for when the 980 ti cards are more available. From what I'm hearing its going to be about 500. These were cherry picked as well. They run 1550 MHz on air even though I run them at stock boost clocks because of the power. 1400 is stock. I think reference is 1250.. Not sure.

So I'm thinking 100 less than new whatever that might be. These have boxes and back plates aswell. 2 1\2 years on warranty. I'm estimating around 400 each.

Looks like these are the new prices. I'm thinking 420 a card + shipping.

I just got back from HP Discover where they had several 21:9 monitors on display. The largest was 34" and I was told they are going to offer larger ones in the next year.

I love my Asus ultrawide. Makes games like CS:GO and battlefield much easier.
