  • ASUS ROG Monitor

    Anyone have one of these bad boys? If so, do you think it was worth the price?

    I was thinking about ordering one in a month or two. I figured since Roliath is hooking me up with a good deal on a gaming PC I might as well upgrade my monitor, too.

    I'd rather buy this.

    pro's = ips, 5 usb 3.0 ports vs 2 on the asus.
    con's = 4ms vs 1ms to the asus.

        I'm not really worried about the USB ports, What's IPS?

        I bought an Acer years ago and was pretty disappointed with the quality, but you seem to know what you're talking about.

          When it comes to monitors, I'd stick to samsung. I haven't been impressed with my ASUS monitors in the past. Poor color accuracy is generally their problem. If you're looking to save a buck, I bought this:

          Its a samsung panel. If you take the bezel off you'll see samsung stickers and stamps everywhere. Its also a PLS panel, which is just a way newer, way better technology than that TN panel you posted. To give you an idea, TN were some of the first LCD's, circa about 1999. IIRC, PLS was invented by Samsung as an answer to the problems with IPS panels in 2012, even though IPS are known to give better quality visuals than TN panels. If you put a TN next to a PLS, you won't want another TN. Just take this very website, for example. Its got all kinds of color differences built into it, that I never had any idea were even there.

          The equivalent samsung brand of that panel is over $700. Just be aware you might have to fix some light bleed, that's why they're so much cheaper and sold under a different name. I just took the panel apart and used some black electrical tape, and the light bleed went away. Only thing I see that ASUS has going for it, is Gsync. I freakin hate screen tearing with a passion

            I currently have http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-452-_-Product

            and love it.

            I should also note that I'm color blind and can't tell any of the " problems " other people see and have pointed out to me when comparing monitors.

            Refresh rates are just about the only thing I can tell between different monitors.

              Well I wouldn't downgrade from 4k lol

              Even if you're color blind though, you'd be able to tell the difference between an TN and an IPS. Not only does it have much greater color accuracy, its also more... uniform. You'll notice light spots and dark spots on a TN if its sitting next to an IPS.

                  Color accuracy, but a bit slower. I doubt most people will care, but I think once you go IPS (with a corrected color profile), TN monitors look like shit.

                  What does IPS panel actually mean? Find out inside PCMag's comprehensive tech and computer-related encyclopedia.

                  Acer really hit all my requirements on a monitor with the one I linked above.

                  They have a bad ass monitor coming soon too.

                  I'm picky as shit though, I figure if you are gonna drop around 1k on something it should be the best of all worlds. I'd rather not sacrifice color accuracy for just a bit faster response times.

                    That thing is freaking slick. I guess I'm going to have to wander into Frys or something and look at all the monitors to see what appeals to me.

                    I don't mind spending money on something if I think it's worth it.

                          Yeah IPS and PLS are supposed to be very similar, if not nearly the same thing. Its just that PLS came out a bit later, to try to deal with some issues that people have against IPS monitors. Although PLS is much rarer, I don't know why, could be because it hasn't been out all that long, relatively.
