  • custom water cooling

I got bored and ordered some new computer parts for either a office computer or a garage/workshop computer. I haven't ordered a case yet because I may do a caseless/wall-mounted PC. Either way, I'm going to water cool it whether it needs it or not.

Anyone on here got something cool? What fittings and blocks did you use? Any brand(s) to avoid?

    Thanks in advance.

I use this closed-circuit cooler for my CPU, but that's the only experience I have ever had with water cooling. It's a Corsair h100i.

You might PM Roliath or TXRedneck, they have the most experience I know of when it comes to water cooling.

That right there is all it'll ever need, and it'll be water cooled. Unless you're just looking to go all out and look all fancy. In which case, I'd say about a $400 job might do the trick.

Yeah, looking cool is a big part of why I'm doing it. I'm not looking for the $ amount, more of the preferred components.

Well usually its a total custom job, built from the ground up by the user. There are tons of sites out there, but you'd be a lot better off asking this question on an overclocking forum. There are tons of variables, unless you go with one of the prebuilt kits. Your OP didn't sound like that was what you were looking for.

Which processor are you using? Which motherboard? What type of pump are you looking for?

A reputable site, scroll down to see just how many variables I'm referring to. Most people spend a lot of time researching and planning their cool looking water cooling build.

I know it's a total custom job. nobody is going to have pre-bent lines on hte shelf for something sprung out of my brain. I've been researching a lot, just wanted to get input from here while I was gathering components.

The PC side of things is handled all but a graphics card and HDD for storage.

Temporarily it will be in an old case until I find one I like or build something to showcase.

Something like this is what I am envisioning, except with hardlines and a cooler reservoir.

What type of computers need this shit?

Most do it for the same reason you think most people drive luxury-branded cars

In all seriousness, there are high horsepower machines that are overclocked for doing crazy data manipulation. They need the much lower cooling temps that water cooling provides over a regular fan/heat sink setup.

So like mostly analytics and simulations? I've seen some with CAE groups for various simulation software....but not for home computers.

I considered running a water cooling set up just for noise reduction. When I've got BF4 going my GPU's get LOUD.

Ahh gaming as well. So anything graphics intensive?

Any computer can use it, but it's typically used when the application puts the components under 100% load for extended periods and if/when they're overclocked.

Both of my desktops have aio coolers on em like Ratt posted. One is oc'd 1.2ghz and serves double duty for and Android build box and folding at home machine, the other is oc'd about 900mhz and serves as a Plex media server and normal desktop duties.

Listen, there have been one or two occasions where I've been watching porn and the fan noise has stopped me from grasping the full depth of the dialogue in the film. This should remedy the problem!

This is more of a want than a need. I think, if done right, they look cool and I want to try my hand at it.

Sennheiser headphones. I've finished in a room full of people I didn't know where there.

                            Boy were they embarrassed.
