And it does the job absolutely fine for a $300 card. I extremely doubt I'll have a problem any time soon at 1080p.
      What's the problem?
Being a pc person, I sometimes forget how other pc people can be so elitist.

I've been out of the building PC days for a while. I hate messing with them.

I was the same way for a while. Built a fairly powerful one last year at this time and I haven't touched it since. Zotac has been around since about 2010 and they make nice stuff.

Depends on the game. Makes a big difference in that one I mentioned, shadow of mordor. Good game too. To the point that some retailers are offering full refunds on the 970. Lots of people pissed off about it. Granted, people who like to play on the bleeding edge. I play at 2560x1440 so for me it would likely be an issue. And, as time goes by, of course more and more demanding games are going to come out and its only going to get worse. However it might not matter at that point anyway, because by then it may be time for a card upgrade.

The benchmark here looked good to me, and kept mostly a 60-70fps.
1080p at ultra settings hasn't been a problem for me on anything yet.

A good explanation here. I know, a lot of people don't like Linus. But he pretty much sums it up. Personally, I wouldn't buy it for the prices they want for it. Games are only going to demand more and more, and as far as I'm concerned 1080p is out the door and over with. Hell 4k is going to be pushing 1440p out the door. I know that's not going be everyone. But if I'm paying this much, and I'm bothering to build a PC and play on that instead of a console, I want the best experience possible.

If I already had one, I'd simply wait for the TI or whatever where they double the vram like they always do, and ebay mine, and get that one. Or, if I were able to get it significantly cheaper, than my last big card upgrade, a GTX 570 for $300. I'd pay $270 for a 970, and indeed you can find them on ebay for that much if you're patient.

So the IT guy at my work is trying to convince me to wait a few months before I upgrade. I guess Intel is about to release some knew tech? I kind of glossed over halfway through his explanation.

1080p is no where near out the door.
This is the elitist attitude I was talking about.
I don't need to worry about resolutions my monitor won't even support.

"Bro, you don't 4k? Do you even game bro?"

Is the IT guy buying your shit, or are you? New technologies are usually no cheap technologies, and they don't instantly cause older ones to be cheaper.

I'm buying it. He's telling me to wait until it comes out so the prices on the current generation items drop. I told him my goal was to spend +/- $1,000 on upgrades.

To elaborate, He's telling me I could save hundreds If I just wait a two or so months and still get upgrades leaps and bounds better than what I have.

Yes I know that attitude is common. I am not some elitist, however. I do not look down at all on anyone who might still use slightly older tech. Hell I used it for years. I just want to stay closer to the forefront if I can. Makes me feel like I'm getting something for all my time money and trouble

That's actually the opposite of what you're doing if you're worried about always having latest and greatest.
