  • Graphics comparisons with new consoles and pc.

It's just a video that I found kinda entertaining with the whole PS4 vs XBone vs PC stuff. Yes, we all know PC wins, but is it THAT much better than the consoles or is it just a pre-conceived notion that we all have?

Cam undertakes the mother of all console war experiments: Can people REALLY tell the difference between PS4, XONE and PC based on graphics alone? Link to vote on the clips - tinyurl.com/RCGFXTEST Link to download the video file - tinyurl.com/RCGFXBLOG

Nice, games are looking great these days! Been a while since I have played anything but a racing sim.

Sometimes its that much better. Other times not so much. Bad console ports to the PC make it kind of lousy sometimes. If they would spend the time and actually make a good port on a lot of these games, you'd definitely be able to tell the difference on console vs PC. Provided you have dumped enough cash into your video card of course. This modern stuff is making even my GTX 770 classified work hard. About to have to upgrade to a 980.

Here's the deal, this current generation of consoles is pretty much dead on with the PC capabilities. This is always the case when the consoles are fairly new. The real advantage to PC comes in when the consoles start getting older. Skyrim for starters is a huge difference, as is Bioshock Infinite. Here is a comparison of the PS3, 360, and PC for Bioshock.

Curious to find out how the graphics of the PC, PS3 and 360 version of BioShock: Infinite compare? This video is for you.

Big time differences. The huge problem is that consoles can't be upgraded, so late into the systems life, you could be playing on 7+ year old technology.

Thats why I said "Pretty much dead on". SLI doesn't automatically mean better. If you ask joe gamer to tell the difference between 30 and 60 FPS, he wont be able to, especially if the console can run it at 30fps constant. Hell, I'm not even sure if I could tell the difference and I'm a hardcore gamer.

well since most consoles have a hard enough time running 30fps I'm pretty sure people can recognize when they gain an extra 40ish fps They will also recognize the faster load times due to having more memory. And if pointed out people will notice the differences in texture quality, reflections, particle quality (and quantity), and lighting (shadows).

The watch dogs e3 video compared to the release is a great example of how watered down the quality is on a console. There were even several hacks that gave a much better visual quality, allowed the game to run closer to 60 fps, and increased its stability

*edit* Also lets not forget the difference in FOV, How many consoles are setting the fov down into 60 range while a PC can run in the 110+ range

PS4 has a few games that run at 60fps. Not sure if the Xbone does. I did notice quite a bit of a difference playing The Last of Us on PS4 vs PS3. Very smooth. But it almost felt wrong. The grittiness of the games nature was kinda taken away.

This is why nobody likes PC gamers. Yes, the PC is the better platform for graphics, but the differences are so minimal when consoles are new that it's hard to tell. The video the OP showed proved that, no one could tell the difference in the control test.

As for the 30/60 debate, I guess I need to revise that. It depends on the type of game. I play Starcraft 2 just about every day and I can't tell FPS drop until it's into the 20's. In a shooter, yeah I recall noticing when it's not at 60.

The control test was done on a games dumbed down for consoles.
The biggest problems PC's face is when a developer first makes the game for consoles (like the videos posted above), and then just tries to upscale them for PC.
Consoles are fine for some people, but by no means are they comparable to pc.

I definitely agree on the upscale part, sad that no one really makes PC exclusives anymore. The only reason I ever own a console is for exclusive titles and sports games. Love my Halo/Gears of War/Uncharted series.

It's because us PC gamers will just pirate the game. So who gives a shit about that market?
