Roliath, pcie3.0 cards still aren't coming close to saturating pcie2.0 lane speeds, so there shouldn't be much of any appreciable speed change putting a 3.0 card in a 2.0 slot.

I've been following this since I have 970's, but

I'm not happy with the 980s. You can't run them at 4gb either. They mostly have to stay around 2.5-3.5Gb for the sweet spot.

4k and SLI are a mess and I'm mostly using that widescreen 1440p monitor with one gpu..

That's retarded and surely can be fixed in a driver update.
