Questions about tethering on AT&T Galaxy S5

So I finally got my S5 rooted and when I try to turn on FoxFi I get a message within a few seconds stating that I need to contact AT&T for this feature. This is on a SAMSUNG-SM-G900A running Android version 4.4.2 (KitKat).

From what I've read on some quick Google searching, AT&T did an update a few months back that blocks tethering. Is there anyway around this? I'm kinda regretting selling my Nexus 5 now

Another somewhat related question. If I pick up a Google Play Edition phone can I bypass this problem?

I honestly have no idea.

The rom itself on the google play edition may or may not let you, but I think the boot loader is unlocked on the google play, and you can flash a rom that wouldn't do a tethering check.
