  • Wireless Issues

Nothing in my home will connect to my wireless network. I'm getting a full signal, and every device locates the network, but they are "unable to join". iPhones, laptops, etc. It's got to be a setting, right? I dont know how to access the router from the computer to mess with its settings. I played around with the firewall settings and that didn't do shit. Any dumbed down advice would be appreciated, since I'm not up on computer lingo.

Everything was working fine, then it started working intermittently, and now nothing. I have reset the modem, router, and computer multiple times.

What's the make and model of your router?

      Linksys WRT160N

Everything started working again a few minutes ago, but it only lasted for about 5 minutes. Now it's busted again.

Maybe my router is taking a dump? Sucks, because I just got it a couple of years ago, and it wasn't cheap.

When having these problems, does plugging into the physical ports work?

Also, check the firmware version of your wireless. If there's an upgrade it may be because of issues like this.

Use at your own risk. Firmware upgrades can be tricky.

Yes. Just no wireless. And I know it's not the devices, because they (my phone for example) connect to other networks just fine.

I'm confident that I've reset the router. I guess I just need to replace it. Sucks, because I really think it's a setting, the router wasnm't cheap, and I hope it doesn't do the same thing with a new one.

You've been through this and no dice huh?

Learning to reset the Linksys WRT160N wireless-N router is important if you currently change the settings within the administrative pages. The reason it is important is because one wrong setting change could make it difficult to access the Internet or the administrative pages of of the router. If you need to start over with your ... Yes.

I'm close to Hulk smashing this router. It won't solve anything, but it will make me feel better for a minute.

                      So frustrating.

Take a laptop over to the router w/ a cat5 cable and hook directly to the router then see if you can make it through the first three steps.

Are you trying to set up your home network using a Linksys router? You'll want to make sure that you set it up correctly to prevent unwanted users and protect your personal information. Getting your router up and running only takes a few...

I was able to do all of that using my desktop, and have gone through all of those settings over and over and over, but to no avail.

Alright, so I just hooked up my laptop directly to the router. I didn't have an extra cable, so I unhooked at the printer and plugged that in to the laptop. It won't get on the internet. The printer works when I plug it in, though, and the desktop is plugged into the router as well, and that's how I am typing this.

WTF? WHy would I be able to use the printer hooked up to the router but not the laptop using the exact same connection?

Is this router just trash, or what?

That's odd. It may very well be hosed. By chance have you contacted Linksys to see what they say?

No. Not sure I want to deal with them. This is the 3rd Linksys turd I've owned in the past 6 years or so.
