Sounds like the disk is hosed. Those disks were never meant to retain data over long periods of time. However, get a can of air, not compressor air, canned air, spray out your floppy drive with short bursts. Try to clean disk reader/head. Is this a 3 1/2 disk or 5 1/4? If tha drive doesn't work, try to take the floppy to Best Buy or a library. You MIGHT get real lucky and pull something off it. Also, there are various recovery services that can be employeed if the data is valuable enough. I'm sure Google can return many data recovery companies. (I'm assuming a race video is of low priority/cost.)Originally posted by Taya Kyle, American GunThere comes a time when honest debate, serious diplomatic efforts, and logical arguments have been exhausted and only men and women willing to take up arms against evil will suffice to save the freedom of a nation or continent.

Darren M is pretty much dead on with his run down of it. Especially if you put another 3.5" disk in and it reads it - you'll know it is a disk issue and not a drive issue. Either way, clean the drive, clean the disk, and cross your fingers.Originally posted by MR EDDU defend him who use's racial slurs like hes drinking water.

Great point ceyko. Find a worthless floppy and try to format it. If it formats just fine your disk is probably trashed. If the drive can't read multiple disks, or format one, it's probably the drive. I know a guy who has a 3 1/2 floppy drive that works. Let me know if I can help.Originally posted by Taya Kyle, American GunThere comes a time when honest debate, serious diplomatic efforts, and logical arguments have been exhausted and only men and women willing to take up arms against evil will suffice to save the freedom of a nation or continent.

Oh, I'm sure they're still out there. The original post didn't distinguish between the two. Although I find it VERY difficult to believe any kind of video could exist on 5 1/4 and only a small one on 3 1/2. However, before CD's and CDRW there were some disk formats that were nominally popular. Zip disks, 100meg 3 1/2" disks were quite popular for a few years and I suspect this may be what we're looking at. My notes above still hold true for those diskettes as well. (There were others too as I recall but I don't remember their names.)Originally posted by Taya Kyle, American GunThere comes a time when honest debate, serious diplomatic efforts, and logical arguments have been exhausted and only men and women willing to take up arms against evil will suffice to save the freedom of a nation or continent.
