  • Attic/Outdoor tv antenna

I bought an attic/outdoor tv antenna for my son's tv in his room (doesn't have cable in there). I installed it yesterday in the attic, ran the coaxial cable. and when I did the scan, it only finds 8 channels. And Fox and NBC are missing. I get 8, 11, 21 and some of those other weather and weird channels in between.

So I went to Radio Shack and purchased this signal amplifier thing, installed it and rescanned... same thing. Still not 4, 5 and some of the others I was expecting.

Could I be doing something wrong or should I mess around and try and position the antenna on my roof or somewhere else? don't have any experience with these type things.

gotta move it around, the further north you are the more difficult it will be. This is either a two-person job or a case where you can take the display up in the attic with you to make adjustments and see it at the same time

Get the boy some cable, for cryin' out loud!

But seriously, you're just going to have to move it around, like Clockwork said.

he has a smart tv with Netflix and a million movies on our network at home. that's plenty

I live in Mansfield, so I wouldn't really consider that North.

I was afraid that may be the answer. I just literally took it to the attic and screwed it into the first 2x4 I saw.

not north at all, the towers are in Cedar Hill, aim it there

looking at google maps and where my house sits, etc. appears I actually did pretty much point it towards Cedar hill. Maybe I should mount it outside? or closer to the edge of the attic. I pretty much have it dead center of my house in the attic.

Mansfield seems to be a dead zone for a lot of signals. I lose my cell phone's connection a lot over there. Midlothian as well.

I use OTA for my TV and reliably get about that many - most are out of the Texoma area though. If you google OTA signals, there are sites that allow you to put in your address/area and they'll show where the "towers" are so you have a better idea.
