I played around with heating some Ti yesterday to get the desired colors, its not easy and certainly not easy to stop at a desired color and have the whole piece be that color.

    What I started with....

Loaded it on the lathe and started it up and applied heat. You can see the end is cherry red hot and the first rib has changed to gold.

    Some of the color variations...

What I finished at was kind of a dark green. I wanted the lighter lime green but that color went by so fast I couldnt even cool it down fast enough to get it to stop on that color once it hit it.

Basically what I need it the consistency of doing this with electricity so I can dial in the color that I want.

I wonder if you're altering the material properties of the titanium with the heat.

Also, as I understand it, 2-25 would mean variable between 2 and 25 volts.

Oh I'm sure of it, these pieces are just for looks though. Ti gets work hardened when you heat it like that and becomes a bitch to machine. Sometimes it happens to me when my tools start to get dull. I really want to get setup to do this. There isnt a huge expense to get going even with off the shelf stuff.

2 volts dc to 25 volts dc adjustable with a potentiometer.
The first rating is under the 120 volt connection

the second rating is 5 volts to 50 volts dc adjustable with the power supply connected for 220 volts

nice, tritium keychains are pretty slick. Never owned one, but I have enough tritium around here to make one I'm sure.

No, ebay is funny about the tritium. It's mainly word of mouth and a website dedicated to flashlights and other gizmos.
