  • burning .img is kicking my ass

Im trying to create a bootable USB to install freeBSD. I have the .img file, and the MD5 hash matches so I know the .img file isn't corrupt. Every time it write to the USB drive it changes the volume to a small size, and I cannot browse the drive.

I've used four different .img burners, all produce the same results, so it has to be me

    win32DiskImage
    flashnul.exe
    unetbootin-windows-608.exe
    DiskImage_1_6_WinAll.exe (from roadkill.net)

Also, be sure it's an iso.

For some reason all of the different media (USB, cd, DVD) are different images, and I am not sure why.

When I try to burn the ISO version to USB va rufus, I get the following error.
This version of Rufus only supports bootable ISOs based on
          bootmgr/WinOE, isolinux or EFI.
This ISO doesn't appear to use either...

What are you needing FBSD for? Can you not use a different Linux distro?

Ahh I think I found out why it gets weird after I burn the .img . I think the image is a GPT partition, which windows 7 doesn't recognize? IDK how to confirm this, and why after I attach the USB device to the Guest, it doesnt see the USB in the guest BIOS.

Yeah, I use Yumi. The best part about it is that you can load multiple bootable images on one USB flash drive.

can't boot to gpt unless you are running uefi

Hmm well the guest os was preconfigured for freebsd 64 bit, and it uses BIOS. Freebsd 10 isn't officially yet supported but there isn't a different install guide.
I'm trying to burn an I so image to a usb stick now.

What I ended up doing was I uploaded the dvd version .iso to the attached HD, and then pointed the cdrom to the image. Definetly reccomend this method to install freeBSD on a esxi guest.
