What do you stream to tv with?

Ok, borrowed my dad's spare roku 2, and picked up a chromecast to test out....

How do you guys get like, news and weather? Wife watches the news in the AM, and I have to make this easy for her!

It works, it's cheap, and it's easy.

Yeah I played around with the chromecast, I wasn't too impressed. Its cool and all, but I don't like that you have to use your phone to find content to watch. Especially with the s***** battery life my phone gets to begin with! Now if chromecast had a remote, & a Plex app that allowed you to browse on the TV, then I would be all for it.

Roku Stick plugs into HDMI, has a remote, and can access Plex. It costs $15 more, but the remote is worth that.

We have Roku3's on two TV's, then chromecasts on our office TV's.

Since I'm on my PC in my office, i just sling a Chrome browser window over to the TV and stream there - the roku's are for when we won't be in front of a PC.

I thought this until I got one for my pops for fathers day. I use a roku and ps3 at home but I liked that you could play content right off your phone and switch over to another app immediately. Well worth the $35 it costs.

I guess I will put this hear, rather than start a new thread. I think I am going to pick up a channel master antenna and supplement it with Amazon Prime. What all will I need to interface the antenna to the TV and to access the Amazon streaming content? It will need to be able to supply 2-3 TV's

channel master anntena is just a normal antenna right?

if the TV is a TV, it has a tuner built in. if the hd is not old as shit, the tuner is digital. the antenna plugs into the tv with a coaxial cable. done, you just watch broadcast tv with your remote.


for amazon prime you need something that can access amazon prime with network access. whether that is a tv with smart apps, bluray player with apps, computer, laptop, playstation, xbox, roku, western digital, apple tv... etc, that is up to you and what you own.

Thanks. I would like to one day, set up a media server, but that is down the road a ways. Right now the primary goal is to get rid of the $$$ we are shelling out every month for cable service. Is a pre-amp necessary? I am 60-70 miles away from the signal according to the online app I ran

that i'm not sure. i don't use an antenna currently. most likely the bigger the better, the more outdoor the better.

i sold off a 15' fishbone antenna we used to have in our attic. it worked great back in the day for all local reception but that was when things were analog.

i'm pretty sure my roommate was running one for locals but ran into signal drop out with a cheapy indoor antenna.

Now granted I only reliably get 10-12 channels (like 3 of them are spanish) on my shop TV - but I'm not aware of any pre-amp, why would you need a pre-amp? I'm in Van Alstyne, really nothing close.

yea i would say try it first with just the antenna and aim it as instructed. if you are running into signal drop out issues, then look into boosting signal.
