  • Replacing FIOS router

Looks like the Actiontec mi424wr took a shit, I remember seeing that Verizon said that I had to use their router. Is there a reason for this? Suggestions on a good value router for the house? We have 50mps with only the xbox hardwired.

You can user another router. I don't think it's direct plug and play though. You need to copy down the Static info if there's any.

You can use whatever third party router you want. All you need to do is call tech support to have them break the lease on your WAN IP. You can try to release it in the FiOS router, then immediately plug in new router and renew. However, I've never been able to get that to work in the past because it's binded to MAC. It's just a matter of a phone call.
