I had my windows phone for a weekend, luckily the HTC One M8 came out on Tuesday. Rocking Kitkat.
For anyone that cares about the Windows phone it won't work with Toyota's Entune suite, it doesn't support dish's sling app, no radarscope but it does have MRLEV3 available. It doesn't show if you are on wifi or LTE on the front screen, you just kind of have to guess and I never figured out how to see the signal strength. It has a great camera, as good as any point and shoot I've had with a flat lens. The Bing search is awesome on the device, basically the same as on my 8.1 tablet. Way slicker than using google for photo and video searches. If you haven't used Bing for these purposes lately try it.
The deal breaker was that I spent an hour + trying to figure out how to get the phone to launch Waze whenever it connected to bluetooth. For something so simple on android it wasn't even possible on windows as far as I can tell.Last edited by BP; 03-27-2014, 01:42 PM.

Yeah, really the only negative is the camera and really for my purposes it's fine. If you take huge photos and crop them a lot the camera will suck for you, if you use them as they are it's great. I'd like an FM tuner but I guess those died off a couple of years ago.
Battery life is good, it goes through a whole day of use with the GPS on constantly and the screen for 2+ hours. I do storm spotting and keep the locator running for reports and radarscope up anytime there is a system around. Plus normal facebook, music, blah blah. Coming from a Razr Maxx HD it's not going to last as long but it's very respectable. The speakers are badass, it is loud and you can actually hear some deep midranges. It comes with headphones also.
The S5 will have a slightly bigger screen and a slightly faster clock speed on the same processor, as well as more megapixels on the camera. That and it'll probably be a little cheaper. It's also water resistant. However the M8 is 90% metal, looks good and is available right now. I've always been a fan of the HTC phones but Samsung is tough to beat. You can't really go wrong with either.
One thing they aren't advertising is the HTC warranty. You get 6 months of screen protection, if the glass breaks they'll repair it once. That and you get 50 gigs of google drive storage for two years with it. They also promise to support the device for two years, meaning whatever version of android is available in 3/2017 will be offered by them for this device.

You are about to start the process of unlocking your device. Unlocking your device allows you to install custom Operating Systems (“OS”) onto your device. Custom OS’s are not tested as thoroughly as your original OS, and unlocking your device may void all or parts of your warranty. HTC disclaims any and all liability for proper functioning of your device after the bootloader has been unlocked and for data lost in the unlocking process. To prevent unauthorized access to your data, unlocking the bootloader will delete all personal data from your device including applications, text messages and personalized settings.
I acknowledge that use of the unlock bootloader may void all or parts of my warranty device and my device may not function as intended by HTC.
I acknowledge that, if my device requires repairs, HTC may charge for additional costs due to the unlocked bootloader
How many phones have you sent it for work? None here.
Bricking one is fairly remote. Keep s-on about zero chance All S-on-off stops is changing the boot partition dont stop from flashing roms. only thing I would ever need s-off is when a new radio comes out then go back to s-on.

How you liking the n5? Was looking at one and have a guy who want to trade my s4 for a new in the box google n5. Here some talk about rattle noise, any truth or just whinny usual crying? N5 has some nice specs.
So sick of locked bootloaders.. All I do is Flash others work, follow the steps and enjoy. Wanting to get into it deeper thats one reason I wanted a phone that I could fully unlock. Insurance covers it if I brick it, dang I lost it...
Like every thing want to play some times you have to pay.

I love my Nexus, but I greatly prefer aosp to skinned Android, so it's as close to perfect as it could be. Are there some perks to OEM devices? Of course, but none are great enough in my view to give up the freedom of no locks on the device I purchased.
Some have experienced rattling from the buttons due to their being ceramic, but I think it's mostly folks being whiney.
