  • ps3 broke

Ps3 will take and eject discs but will not load them up, either games or movies. Icon in far upper right blinks/pulsates, whatever you want to call it, like the ps3 is trying to read the disc. I believe the drive is not working as the disc will not spin. I insert the disc, wait a few seconds, and it will eject in same orientation as it was inserted.

Anyone ever had this problem and fixed it themselves?

    Try this.

    1. First go to Settings> System Settings> Default settings. If the first solution does not work try the trick below.

    2. Remove any disk from the drive and put the device in standby mode (Red LED). Press and hold the On/Off until you ger first beep, a second one and then a double beep.

    3. If there's no double beep, repeat the process.
You should get a menu. Choose the 3rd option and follow the procedure.

spindle motor. They are cheap as shit on Ebay. IF the laser has gone out you can buy a replacement drive also but you will have to swap out the controller board on the drive because it is matched to the Bios in the PS3. I picked up a broken PS3 with that exact problem and simply swapped out the drive and controller board. Worked like new.

My old roommate had a similar problem. It was the hard drive. He went online to download the PS3 OS or something like that, replaced his HDD with a 500GB laptop hard drive, installed the OS and now he has a PS3 with 500gigs of space.

I have an original 60gig PS3 that I'll let go for a fair price (honestly don't know what that price is though).
