  • New Windows User error

So I repurposed my old computer to my living room so anyone that comes over can use it for web surfing and email. I created a Standard User so I could customize it with some shortcuts my mom can navigate with to her email and Facebook pages with but when I try to go into the user it fails with the below error.

I tried the steps detailed in this article and it doesn't make a difference.

I created a Guest User and that works fine but really want a separate one for my mom to use so I can keep her shortcuts and cookies separate. Any ideas how to resolve it short of reinstalling Windows? This is Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit.

Granted, I didn't go to the link you provided, try this if it's different. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...ot-loaded.html

Edit : Disregard, it's the same instructions.

I've never run into this, so I have no experience. Sorry

If you are running into a bug - hit ^ option2 on that link.

If this is just a problem with the new user being able to login, it may just be the permissions on that new user need looked over.

I would login as admin, right-click on the user in contol panel, check permissions and grant admin rights (at least temporarily) to see if it is a permissions issue.. You can back the permissions off from there as you see fit..

looks like user account corruption. Have you tried starting in safe mode w/ networking?

OK I'm going to give that a try than.

Did you read through all the replies on sevenforums? One of the suggestions not covered elsewhere was to disable the firewall, windows defender, and UAC. Then, go back and try to recreate the profile.

well if he has account corruption he can't even get to a taskbar to log in.

Jose, I assume you're saying even in safe mode you can't access the desktop?

I'll give that a try this morning.

Sorry CJ let me clarify. I have my main Admin user that I have no problems logging into. I created a new Standard user for my mom to log into and that fails with the above error. I created a Guest user and that logs in with no problem. I created a test Admin user and that also fails. Neither of the users that fail will log in with Safe Mode.

Weird, I just had this same damned bug yesterday. I modified the registry with the method 1 in that link and it worked fine. Well, my user files were all gone, but at least I could get back in.

Option two didn't work either. I have created a few different users (both standard and admin) and they all fail. In reading what might have been the cause of this, it's possible at some time in the past I deleted a user manually without going through the Control Panel.

So I tried to go through the registry steps and I am not finding the user I created for my mother, probably because I deleted it. I do see my current user and the guest user that are active plus two others that I believe are old.

Should I leave those alone? I'm moving on and seeing what else I can try.

I'd do a repair install to clean up the registry from all the old users and create her one fresh.

When looking through the registry I show my user profile, the guest one, and two others. Should I delete or rename these?

                          Here is mine.

Here are the two I have no idea on. I think the JOSE-PC one might have been my original Admin user.

                          And the guest.

                            -Jose (Working Admin account)
                            -Guest (Only Working guest account)
-JOSE-PC - Does seem to be the original Admin
-Updatususer - I don't have this on my PC, but it may have to do with Patch installation or a virus, lol.

Where is the new user you created? Guest #2 i'll call it.

Try creating a new user again and check the registry. See if it did the .BAK thing, or if it adds a 5th user SID there.

From there: Check the 5th user and maybe #3 and #4.

                            For those follow directions:

Just an idea.. (since your SIDs don't show .BAK) a possible snippet of goodness from video below:

                            1) Restart to Safemode
                            2) open regedit
                            3) You have 4 accounts listed
                            -Jose (Working Admin account)
                            -Guest (Only Working guest account)
-JOSE-PC - Does seem to be the original Admin
-Updatususer - I don't have this on my PC, but it may have to do with Patch installation or a virus, lol.

-5th user you will create - Change Refcount and State to "0" as seen,

                            Start 1:50
