I just saw this, I sent him a link to this thread. Our exchange admin said he doesn't have to worry about sending emails to outside emails. I'll see what I can find though.

So there aren't any purchased lists or "spam" so to speak. it's school related. I discovered on the last mass email that was accepted by yahoo that it included a lot of invalid email accounts, which I know can be interpreted as spam. So now I had to reach out to our registration about our process for updating those email addresses, which happens to be twice a year.

Thanks man, ill check that out too. I'm kinda wanting to see processes other schools are using since its likely that similar type emails are being sent with similar volume and frequency.

I checked out that link. Seems similar to Constant Contact, which I got a few campuses on board with last year. Looks like I need to look into the registration process. I know an email blast goes out about the upcoming year for registration and I believe this department just sends it out through our exchange server.

And I discovered that our parent email lists gets updated annually during registration, with a second opportunity for them to update it mid-year. Even at twice a year, I can see a lot of "invalid accounts" in the logs.
