  • S4 rooting

I just got a new S4 and can't stand having 3 pages of useless apps taking up storage. They said the only way to be able to remove them is to root the phone. Any tips, pointers, suggestions on if its a good idea or not and how to do it.

Cool, guess I'll have to wait till I go home for Christmas so I can grab my laptop. One other quick question, is there a way to make the keyboard turn on spell check and auto grammer like the iphones do?

Should be in the Settings under Language & Input.

Might be picking up a S4 this weekend but haven't decided on it or the Nexus 5 yet.

You might not even have to root it. Go to settings, go to more tab, application manager, scroll all the way to the right, find the app you don't want to see anymore. Click on it, see if there's a button to turn it off or disable it.

Most bloatware can't be uninstalled from what I remember. I use Titanium Backup (Rooted) to do a Backup image of what I have installed. Than with that software I can freeze the offending bloatware/software from running to see how the phone functions. After I see everything is working fine I'll than uninstall what I don't want but keep the backup handy in case I want to restore back for some reason.

I just checked on the s4 I have, it's a t-mobile one so it has the standard my account app, lookout security, etc, they can all be turned off from what I can see.

Also for sale if you need one.

Also keep in mind that starting with the GS4 and Note 3, they implemented and e-fuse sms special irreversible counter called Knox, once it's tripped, you're device warranty will never be honored.

In short, don't support the locking out of customers by buying these devices, go Nexus or get a post Google acquisition Moto Dev Edition device. They're the only ones who don't void the warranty for unlocking the bootloader to mod the device.

It was a free upgrade from AT&T, not too worried about the warranty. The only problems I've read about from removing all that crap is when an update comes out, but I figure you can always keep a backup stock copy to go back to and do the updates if it causes problems, then go back in and take everything back out.

I just updated my note 2 to 4.3. Rooted it and removed knox. Don't care for warranty. Especially since samsung won't push another update for my phone. Me no longer care.
