  • Reliable site hosting

I need some recommendations for a buddy, his site has been compromised and taken down multiple times in the last 6 weeks and the host doesn't seem to know what each hand is doing. They also don't seem very interested in mitigating it going forward.

I used DreamHost for a year. No issues with the hosting, but I had some issues trying to deploy a Perl Catalyst application.

There's always Rackspace, and they're a Texas company, too.

Who is he using right now?

Most of our clients use GoDaddy, some use easydns, none have ever complained and they have never had any compromises.

He's currently using hostdime?... I've never heard of them.

Hey Bryan, got your message. I can't really say I know of a single site hoster.
1and1, Hostgator (he's consolidating out of pretty much all his hosted pc's, into their own Datacenter. however they had a pretty big outage not to long ago), Linode, godaddy and easydns i've heard are good too.

I have heard all of these are good, except Linode, never heard of them.

Linode is awesome, check them out. Owners are great, I did a ton of work for them on their Dallas pod. I would go to them before I went to hostgator if I was looking for a VPS.

I've been given advice to separate the name registrar and the site host.
Something about holding your name registry hostage if you try to leave their site hosting service.

If so, is there a "good" name registrar?
                      (are there bad ones?)
