  • Need help rooting my Sprint Galaxy S3

I'm trying to root my Sprint Galaxy S3. I've tried several simple methods, including Galaxy S3 Toolkit, and the Odin3 program. I've followed along exactly step by step with youtube vids and every time I get stuck with a non rooted phone.

I know how to put the phone into download mode. I know that I have the right files for rooting my specific model of phone.

Specifically, when I put my phone into download mode, open Odin(the computer program) select my phone's .tar.md5 file and ask it to root my phone, the program provides these lines of response and leaves my phone untouched. (only runs for MAYBE 3 seconds, my phones screen in download mode not changing otherwise either).

    <OSM> Enter CS for MD5..
<OSM> Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..
    <OSM> Please wait..
    <OSM> CF-Auto-Root-d2spr-d2spr-sphl710.tar.md5 is valid.
    <OSM> Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully..
    <OSM> Leave CS..
    <OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0)

Anyone have any idea on what's going on here? I've tried xda and other sites with no luck.

    TIA,

    Taylor

Unless something has changed, CFAutoRoot has always been flashed in a custom recovery that you pushed via Odin. If you want to root via Odin, flash a rooted kernel.

Have you rebooted the phone? Try another USB Cable? Maybe try installing the software on another computer and try Rooting it there?

This worked! Tried Odin on my desktop and it worked like a champ.

        Thanks for the replies.

Glad that worked. Fucking finicky ass shit. Don't think I've had that happened on Android but I know I've had it happen on my iPhone. Two Pc's and finally got my iMac to Jail Break my iPhone. Glad you've got it working.

Anyone know of a working wifi tethering app for the S3 on Sprint? My phone is rooted and still Sprint is denying me the ability to tether via wifi.

Install ES File Explorer, grant it root w/System as r/w, browse /device/system/app and look for tethering manager, long press, rename the extension to .bak from .apk and see if that does the trick.
