  • Benchmarking

I just built my first rig. After a power supply fire, brand new motherboard short, , grenaded 7200rpm HD, and about 24 hours of tech support from random guys from New Deli I think I have things right. Its running games great and edits video very well with the multi threaded fx8350 core. I used the asus crosshair V MB and x2 asus gtc 770 GPUs with water cooling to the CPU, 880 watt corsair power supply after the 1200 generic power supply exploded.

Do you guys benchmark? I was just wondering if my scores seem correct.

    Ive been using http://www.3dmark.com/

    The basic model is free

    Extreme score was http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/7044557?

    Performance score was http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/7044602?

Ive overclocked a little in the GPU tweaker, but I'm not good enough to change my BIOS up and get a real overclock.

Really didn't know what I was getting into, but things are going right now. I think now just leave it alone.....forever.

That processor will easily overclock to 5GHz.

Having trouble with the 5Ghz stability. I have it at 4.6ghz @ 1.4v.
Also put another GPU in it and it got top 100 Hall of fame in 3DMark 11 benchmarking, but it was unstable at 4.8Ghz and only stayed running for maybe 10-15 min.
The rigs with I7's still beat me. I'm the only AMD processor on the top 100 list sitting at 50 for now. If I knew that now, I would have gone I7.

4.6ghz is plenty fast. 5ghz is just asking for trouble.

Don't listen to the Intel fanboi. If you haven't already, make sure that you have the phase settings in Ai-Tweaker set to extreme to get the 5ghz or better OC.

Not with the AMD FX eight core processors. TxRedneck has one that he runs overclocked at 5Ghz under 100% CPU load for hours at a time. Those processors are stupid reliable with a decent cooling unit.

For the record, I've gotten my fx8120 up to 5ghz from the stock 3.1, but run it daily @ 4.3ghz with very little voltage and 100% load 24/7.

Thought you were running it @ 5ghz for folding...

I don't have enough cooling for the house or cpu to do that.

Well I got it to run prime95 @ 5ghz using 1.525000 volts but only for about 40 min. FX8350 was jumping to 85+ with using water cooling so ill just keep it safe at 4.7ghz@ 1.44v.

That's way more voltage than you need for that clock speed.

Take some pictures of the bios where the phase settings are and post em.

Also, I'll post what I have mine set to for 4.3ghz on a first gen 8120,when I get home.

OK, here's the settings I run for a 1.2ghz OC. It's an Asus Sabertooth 990FX mobo, FX8120 cpu, GSkill 1866 ram and a PCP&C Silencer 910 watt psu.

It was crashing last night at 4.7 so I back edit down to 4.5.

                          Asus GeForce gtx 770x3
                          1200 corsair psu
                          16 mb corsair ram

4.5 is pretty easy to maintain. I'd like to stick at 4.8, but keep getting problems. Guide says 1.45-1.5v for 4.8 which did seem high. I followed an exact guide for my board and 8350.

On this screen, change the first 3 to high, extreme or ultra and drop the voltage to stock or 1-2 ticks higher.

Editost what it shows under power switching frequency and power response control.

No dice. Tried everything from 1.33v to 1.4 at 4.8ghz. Prime 95 will shut down in a matter of seconds.
