  • keep losing connection to my router

so is it time to replace my router again or what? it happens alot on my phone. I usually have to go in there and power cycle the router and modem. there is works good tilll the next day. also I have no idea if this is even a router issue but I can not access youtube at my house. I have called charter about this and they say its on my end.

I really dont know, alot of weird things happens like I can not doing any updates on my phones or download apps at my house. I have the airave conntected to my router to help on my signal for my phone.

So long as the problem is present across multiple devices and you're only using their gateway router, then they need to correct the problem. Only happen on wifi or does it happen with a wired device as well?
How do we forget ourselves? How do we forget our minds?

Connect a computer or laptop directly to your modem. If you can access youtube connected to the internet directly through your modem, the problem is the router.

If the only way to get reconnected to the router is via powercycling it, it's likely that your router is failing. Do you have problems maintaining wireless connections anywhere other than on your wireless?
Scientists do not coddle ideas. They crash test them. They run them into a brick wall at 60 miles per hour and then examine the pieces.

If the idea is sound, the pieces will be that of the wall.

What kind of wireless router do you have? I was having the same problem with a cheap netgear wireless router my dad gave me so I replaced it with an old Linksys WRT54g and suddenly everything was twice as fast if not more and I have ZERO connectivity problems and better range...and this is only wireless G. I'd love to find a good N router that was as reliable but good ones are still kinda pricey.

          What do you consider pricey?

The one I use at home (bought used for MUCH cheaper):

I believe Netgears drop signals alot. I have a N router from netgear that will just intermittently drop the signal. It hasn't done it in a while but it did for a little while and drove me nuts. I had to reset it usually.

For a regular home user I consider over 100 pricey. If it was for a business I could see that being good...but I won't pay that much for my limited needs. The only Wireless N capable computer I currently have is my Macbook Pro and that 5yr old WRT54g works great until I go to the opposite side of the house.

Putting DD-WRT firmware on it will improve the distance along other things. Basically opens up all the parameters. Just don't up the db's for that setting to high or you'll overheat the router.

When I get over near your house this week(end) I would be happy to take a look at it.

it is a.netgear router. I used to have a linkseys wrt54g, but it just quit one day. I will try the whole plugging it into the modem directly. I have an xbox close to it that I can try. Damn laptop screen isnt coming on right now so I cant use that. will try it tomorrow and I will let yall know the outcome.
