  • Time Warner youtube throttling hack

I recently figured out the modem/router I found in a car I purchased is compatible with Time Warner. It saves me $4 bucks a month, and is DOCSIS 3.0. Well since I own the thing, I wanted to find some mods possibly for it, but the interwebs produced a video saying Time Warner throttles youtube.
Im curious if this is legit, and would I get in trouble with TWC for doing this.

    PC:
Go to start, type in CMD and right click and open as administrator, then type
    netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="YoutubeHack" dir=in action=block remoteip=173.194.55.0/24,206.111.0.0/16 enable=yes

    To remove this rule, type:
netsh advfirewall firewall delete rule name="YoutubeHack"

    For Macs:
sudo ipfw add reject src-ip 173.194.55.0/24 in
sudo ipfw add reject src-ip 206.111.0.0/16 in

To check if they were added:
    sudo ipfw list

As I understand it, all that does is tells your router to not connect to TWC CDN servers and connect directly to YT.

Edit:No, you cannot get in trouble for doing this.

I tested the p2p on my puter and the upload speed was correct@34Mbits, but the dl said there was noise but couldn't conclusively say it was shaped and only measured 1.5Mbits. Here's a speedtest immediately after.

I wonder if this is my problem with Uverse. I only get lag when streaming YouTube and Twitch everything else on the internet if fime and so are my speedtests

I remember back in '97 or so when I had AT&T @home - the first cable. I bitched and bitched and I was one of the first ones to get cable internet in arlington. I was the only computer on my node. I hacked the modem via a modified *.txt file to reconfigure it and uncapped the modem and I was running 20mb/s or so, which was fucking insane fast for the time. I was hosting like 10 quakeworld servers. Then I got a visit from AT&T in person and got in trouble with my parents.

I don't have anything productive to add to this thread, but I did see "Time Warner" in the title and wanted to come in here and say fuck them. Fuck them in the goat ass. Twice.
