Need some help.

I am working on a scratch build idea for quakecon next year. What is a low cost monitor that is 19" or less and has a 1920x1080 resolution? The only thing I have found is stupid expensive and then LCDs from a laptop. This leads me to my main question.

Is there a way to pull an old lcd or get a replacement lcd from/for a laptop and convert it to a screen for a desktop computer? I can build a bezel for it and even a mount or stand but I'm not sure how I would hook up power and a HDMI or DVI cable to it.

I'm not sure if all laptop LCD monitors have the same connector, but yes possible.

Controller board: on that sales listing, they have a table of compatible LCDs. they say to specify model number on your LCD to ensure compatibility.

Interesting, now if I can only find a few XPS 13 ultrabooks for cheap that have the FHD screens that work lol.

I used to have a dell latitude d820/d830 that had a 15.4 screen with 1920x1200. Was the WUXGA models. Could probably find one of those as well but that high res on a small screen took some getting used to

Dang just saw this on the specs for that particular LCD control panel:

Max Panel Resolutions


1440*900

There may be ones that do higher, but your specific needs in this case may lean back towards getting a regular monitor(s) for not much more choo choo.

Thing is they don't make 13-14" monitors that are FHD. I need that size for the build I'm doing because of size constraints. I thought I could do 15.6" but I don't think that they will fit.

If I have to go lower resolution I will, I just can't fit everything into the space I want to use with going bigger than a 14.1"

3x 1440*900 is still 53% higher resolution than 1920*1080

This controller will do 1920x1200 at the same price.

I would recommend hitting up this ebay seller, he seems to know his shit and may be able to point you to a range of laptop screens that will work. May even have some screens available..
