So after the last time I screwed up my phone I never re-rooted or anything. Figured I'd do it before bed and maybe try a new ROM. Big mistake! Shouldn't have done it while getting a little sleep. While running Odin I swore I had the option checked to reboot and it wasn't. I panicked and rebooted my phone which began a two hour process of getting my phone running.

So I finally got it running; have TWRP running vs. CWM and loaded CMD 10.1.2. But I've lost my stock ROM. Not a big deal really but I'll downloaded it just to have it handy. Gotta reinstall all the Google Apps again. Got to sleep last night and let that go into this morning. Damn this has got to be the third time I've screwed this up

And I couldn't get this to work! It would connect but never finish the recovery!

I never could figure out how to get my old apps, texts, contacts etc to pull over from my original and old ROM to my new Jelly Bean. I still have the old ROM on a backup but it would be nice to have my couple hundred contacts back.

Don't feel so bad. It took me 3 days to figure this thing out. I bet I have every bit of 20+ hours of working on it.

If you have a custom recovery installed, backup your current rom, reboot to recovery, restore the old rom, boot normal, sync your contacts to Gmail , reboot back into recovery, restore your newer rom, sync your Gmail and they'll come back.

I haven't gotten my hands on his phone to mess with it. As soon as I do, I will update.

As long as everything was synched with Google it should have carried over. In my case I installed the CyanogenMod ROM and than had to install the Google Apps (GAPPS) afterwards to get all the stuff to synch my old user over and get things like the Play Store and Google Maps. The CyanogenMod ROM does not come with the GAPPS so you have to install it manually.

                  Exactly.

Quick question for you. With all that I screwed up, I chose the option to reset the phone and I cleared all the cache yet all my apps, pictures, etc. were still on the phone after I installed the new ROM. Although I'm thankful I didn't lost some of the stuff, any idea why it stayed on the phone?

Did you factory reset or just wipe caches?

Reading up on XDA and found the following. Maybe that's what I missed and the reason a lot of my stuff was still on my phone.

                            26) Q. dev says to do a full wipe before flashing his rom, huh.
                            A. in recovery perform these steps, do each of these actions twice:
                            WIPE "CACHE" PARTITION
                            WIPE "DALVIK CACHE" PARTITION
                            WIPE "SYSTEM" PARTITION
                            PERFORM A "FACTORY RESET"
