    friend's description of what happened:

A white line flashed over the screen. When I turned it back on the samsung logo showed then it shut off and started vibrating every two seconds with the notification light flashing until I took out the battery.

I was using the original OS and never tried to upgrade

    any thoughts?

Reboot into recovery and wipe cache+dalvik cache and try booting. Recovery= both volume buttons+power until the Samsung logo appears, then release ONLY the power till the next screen appears.

The volume buttons scroll, power button executes the function.

I have the same phone. Only thing I can suggest is booting into Recovery Mode and try a reboot from there or do a Reset on the phone.

while we have a thread on this phone, mine is running low on available memory, and starting to run much slower and be more prone to locking up for seconds at a time. Is there a good route to take to clean it up some and get me to my contract renewal at the first of next year?

Running low on available memory? How much available memory do you have? Do you have a bunch of apps, music, videos, pictures on it? Do you have an external memory card installed?

Low on storage like you can't install more apps or storage for pics?

Wouldn't low on storage also affect performance?

Android handles ram far better than Win, having said that how much space does it report available for apps?

Also, try the steps I posted for the OP.

Does it hurt to do that even if you aren't having any problems?

No sir, it forces the OS to rebuild the cache for apps and the Java Dalvik VM upon boot, thus removing any old, corrupt or unneeded files. It can help restore the speed of the phone, albeit temporarily.

Anytime mine doesn't feel like I think it should, I'll wipe those two. Keep in mind, the initial boot will take much longer than normal, but subsequent boots will be as expected.

Here's a couple quick reads that better explain those two as well as others..

Unless you have been using your Android phone just for calls, SMS, browsing and basic apps, you should know that Android uses several partitions to
