I bought this off craigs list for my grandson, I-5 cpu, 8 gig. It booted fine, ask the owner if he had removed all his stuff, it had a fresh install of 7 ultimate, i didn't think to check entering the bios on boot. this mod has a fingerprint reader and a password lock on the bios. when home I discovered the bios was password locked. The guy i bought it from provided 3 different passwords, none worked.
since it was still in warranty i got with the hp tech line, I sent them all the info on the bios from SI. they emailed me a SMC.bin file. With the instructions of how to load it on boot. press the windows key, the up and down arrow key all at the same time when powering up with a usb drive with the smc file on it in the computer. it loads the smc.bin file over writing the bios and after entering bios with the F10 key you have a choice to reset the bios to default. ebay is selling a surface mount chip you have to solder to the motherboard to acheve the same thing.
