  • Any way I can get a file off of a possibly crashed hard drive?

So I'm working on an old pos Dell laptop at work. I spent a good 9 hours on a project and then tried to shut the computer down. It wouldn't respond so I just held the power button down and went home. Next day it won't boot up. It tries to bring up some Dell media direct crap then says it can't access the hard drive and shuts down. When I try to boot up in safe mode I get a blue screen of death. Any way I can just get the file I need off of this thing?

Pull it and slave it on another computer.

Thanks man, ended up having to re-do all the work. Oh well, shit happens.

Once hardware failure kicks in it gets much tougher and more expensive to recover the data. If its critical stuff I'd keep multiple copies on different storage media. If this was at work they don't have network file shares to save your work to?
