Why in the hell can I go down to Best Buy, get a Galaxy Note 2 with a 2 yr plan with whoever, and only pay $249-$349 for the phone, depending on sp....but the phone without a plan is $700?!!? How does that shit work?

It makes them more money to bill you for a guaranteed 24 months than if you were to buy it outright. And if you break the contract there are $3-400 termination fees to make up the difference.

Because they are getting the other $500 out of the two year contract you sign.

If you plan on staying with the service provider, just upgrade and re contract. I know my bill does not go down once im out of contract.

The real kick in the teeth is that if you take your own phone to the carrier(except Tmob) and sign a contract, you're still paying the price to subsidize a phone that you're not getting from them, etf's and all.
