  • Cheap caming rig?

I'm looking for CHEAP. My dad needs a new computer, but all he really uses it for is netflix and Diablo 2.

I have an extra GTX260 laying around, so it doesnt need a graphics card, just a PCI-e slot.

    Any ideas?

    Here's real cheap for a mobo/cpu combo. http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...spx?sku=103838

If you've got the card and a psu lying around that can run it then its hard to beat the Microcenter combos. What is he running now and what is your budget?

What about the alienware X51's? I dont have any expierience with them but I saw one the other day and a gaming pc for under $1000 sounds like a decent deal.

I wouldnt go in expecting SLI/X-fire performance but a small simple setup for single screen gaming it might fit the bill.

That sounds way over the "Cheap" budget.

Yeah it's not the cheapest solution but one of the easiest. A buddy up here at work that needed a gaming pc for swtor and ended up going with one of those ibuypower or cyberpowerpc desktops on newegg and has had nothing but good luck with it. He did have to send his first one back because the power supply was faulty but they swapped it out and no issues since then.

ubuntu is free, and isn't there a linux diablo 2 client?]

edit: nope, guess there isn't. unless you want to install Wine.

Thanks guys, that does seem like a decent deal. That 500w psupply should be plenty, right?

His current computer is some micro case piece of shit he went and got at walmart. It has some built in intel grapics card that cant even run D2.

Regardless of what Blizzard says about Diablo 2 and what the sysreqs are, D2 was a resource hog.

I have an E4300 on a Nvidia nForce 680i with a UltraX 500 watt power supply and 4 GB of memory. You just need a case and a hard drive...shoot give me a case/hard drive and I will get it installed and set up just because I like tinkering.

Graphics card with it is a ATi 3870.

                              Old tech, but good tech.

I just built a slightly goodish gaming system for about $400. i7-950 OC'd to 4.002 GHz on evga x58 SLI3, 10GB memory, (2) GTX460 sli'd at 715mhz, antec 750w power supply. If you buy used, it can be done for cheap...
