  • how do i get better wifi coverage in my home?

I bought a cisco repeater only to find it isnt compatible with my cisco wireless router/modem, go figure.

So i started doing research online and found this link.

can someone explain what powerline networking is? Does this mean it just plugs into the wall recepticle and works like a repeater? Im getting just 1 bar in my bedroom and want to get 5 bars if possible, i just dont know the best way to get to 5.

The Diamond WR300N wireless range extender and repeater will increase the range of your existing wireless coverage removing those wireless dead spots and or weak areas of your network. It's like having three devices in one: the WR300N functions as a wireless extender to increase your wireless range, a standalone wireless access point to create a wireless network, and a wireless bridge to extend your home's Ethernet coverage. The small form factor lets you plug the unit directly to the wall socket without any additional cables. For frequent travelers, this means you can bring your own wireless network on the road. Use in your hotel room to transform your wired Ethernet internet access into a mobile Wi-Fi network to share with multiple notebooks and smartphones.3-in-1 Device Wireless Range Extender The WR300N receives weak wireless signals and extends the signal range to greater distances eliminating wireless dead spots.Standalone Wireless Access Point Create a wireless network by connecting the device to a wired router/cable modem or DSL modem. This small compact portable device can create wireless connectivity wherever you go. Use in your hotel room and turn a wired internet connection into a wireless internet connection.Wireless Bridge Device When functioning as a wireless bridge, the WR300N receives a wireless signal from your home wireless network and converts it to wired Ethernet connections for non-wireless devices such as internet ready HDTV’s, gaming consoles such as Playstation 3, and Internet-ready Blu-ray players.Connect with SecurityThe WR300N is equipped with 64/128-bit WEP, Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA), and the latest WPA2 encryption with TKIP and AES algorithm to protect your wireless network from unauthorized access. MAC Address Filtering for wireless links provides an additional layer of security for your wireless network.

Can you give a better description of your home? 2 story, brick, concrete, composition, size, location/city etc..

Placement of the devices is the most important, always put them in the highest point of the home, use networking cable where you can. Using those powergrid devices is not recommended.

          Utilize dual band devices.

Ethernet over power can work fine, it just depends. However, it's not wireless - but depending on your home wiring and several other variables it COULD accommodate an AP in another room.

If a large/long home, generally you're better off with more APs, on different channels though. Also - plain ole' CAT 5 direct runs to the APs is optimal. However, as abecx mentioned - not a lot of details at this point for anyone to work off of.
