I don't get why the phones don't work in context with Apple/Android phones. They come without the headaches of dealing with Apple bullshit and without having to fuck with it as much as a 13 year old beating his dick like you do on an Android platform.

Plus, all of my Windows shit is pretty seamlessly integrated now. I was opposed to integrating all of my shit even after I got my WP, but it works perfectly, so it's difficult to ignore.

And I know good design is difficult for this place to wrap its mind around, but that's something that Windows phones have in spades that Android certainly doesn't and Apple has been missing for a couple of iterations now. It's clean, efficient, and it works.

But it won't suck your dick for you, which apparently is a turnoff for the Android crowd.

I'm going to pass over the typical complaints about the app availability being poor, etc. I just don't see any reason to switch FROM android to a new platform. For a Tablet Win8 pro makes sense, but correct me if I'm wrong, why would I want to go to a windows phone which can't run desktop applications? It just seems like a whole bunch of shit to deal with for no reason. My phone a) makes calls, b) runs a few basic apps, and c) takes pictures. Outside of that I don't really see what the advantage of running a windows phone? Can it do something android can't? I can understand it has advantages over an iOS and it's proprietary bullshit, but that's not the case when comparing it to Android.

App availability is about all there is, and these days just about anything mainstream as far as apps goes is on there. Sure, there isn't a 3D teraflop flux capacitor seamless integration modeling app, but who gives a fuck?

As far as running desktop apps on my phone, I couldn't care less about that. I can run the office suite, and that's about all that I could be bothered to use a phone to do as far as desktop apps go. I don't think I've ever found myself in a situation where I've ever truly needed a phone to be able to run a desktop app; that's what laptops are for, and they're even surprisingly mobile these days!

My beefs with Android center around plasticky, low-quality feeling phones, and an operating system that feels completely unpolished and requires hours of end-user modification and incessant, tedious tweaking to run like everyone likes to say they run. It's a really odd dichotomy to me that people get so excited about having to do the OEM's job for them, after forking over money for a product that they'll freely admit is worthless right out of the box.

Since my phone does everything I want, that is the only thing I would care about switching to a windows phone. Because to me, as someone who owns a functional phone, that's the only appeal to running windows. Primarily Excel is one of those programs. And I need access to full blown excel, not the watered down shit.

There's a difference between not feeling the need to switch and describing something as not making sense. Even if it doesn't satisfy your specific needs, it doesn't make it a non-viable option for the other 99% of the population.

The point is 99% of the population is satisifed with their phone os. You're attempting to dismiss the need to attract users to their platform.

The need to attract users has nothing to do with the merits of the OS itself, at least so far as it goes for responding to comments like "Windows phones suck." Plus, Android fanboys dishing out bad advice to people who ask them for it certainly doesn't help the cause, particularly when they have little to no meaningful (read: long term; it's not like you stepped in to the Android environment seamlessly after 1 hour with a phone) experience with the phones.

I thought most manufacturers built Windows and Android phones with pretty similar, if not identical, hardware.

Microsoft still has plenty of their proprietary BS, just not as much as Apple.

Custom ROMs aren't necessary any more, but they do offer some advantages. You don't have to spend hours configuring them and tweaking them, either. Android's pretty stable and fast now, but I agree the UI is far from polished. It can be polished, but it requires significantly more effort from the individual developer than iOS or (I'm assuming) WP.

My comment was with respect to the interface/UI design. Android looks like it was designed by the kind of folk who tend to gravitate towards them; sure, it works, but it looks and functions like a bucket of turd.

Gotcha. I agree that it looks bad (gray controls, black background, plain fonts, rectangular rather than round buttons, etc.) and iOS is waaaaay ahead of it there. The extra work that it takes to make Android apps look nice is a beating, where you have to pretty much go out of your way to make an iOS app look crude or shitty. Behind the appearance, I don't have a problem with the way it functions.

The thing about android phones is you can set them up any way you like. If you want the UI of a windows phone you can do that(Launcher8), if you want it to look like an iphone UI, you can do that, too. There isn't anything special that windows phones do that android phones don't. Other than make transferring contacts a gigantic pain in my ass. That, and the severe lack of apps that ios and android have.

I agree with slowhand. I can't speak for all windows phones, but my lumia 900 is tits. Tanner is a minimalist. He doesn't require much more than group text, a little customization, and a phone that runs all the time without fail. thats why I love my lumia. It just flat out works.
