  • Need to buy a Macbook internal battery

My wife spilled her drink on her macbook and fried the ram and battery.

I've got some ram on order to upgrade but the battery doesn't hold charge and gives me the message "REPLACE NOW".

I tried contacting apple about getting a battery from them, but they want me to go to an authorized dealer because its an internal battery. It looks easy to change, I'm just having trouble finding a battery since it's not really recommended you get an asian battery.

Ifixit.com shows one but I've seen mixed reviews.

Any mac experts know where to find a good replacement battery?

    It's a Macbook pro 15 A1286 8,2 2.4 i7

    Aren't those built in China?

LoL I'm sure they are but I've read about overheating issues and to be honest I know nothing about Macs.

There's nothing different about Mac hardware.

Edit: Unless you're talking about the newest generation MacBook, because there's all sorts of proprietary shit in there. The battery is glued to the main board, the memory is soldered in to the main board, and the SSD in them is proprietary.

It's an 11 model. The battery is held by 2 tri-wing screws and a connector. Pretty easy swap. I just don't want to get a crappy battery.

If she spilled a drink on it I'm shocked it even turns on...thats one of the weak spots of the Macbook and Macbook Pro. I've replaced the mainboard on several of them and usually a liquid spill is the death of them. Unless you are extremely lucky...I'm saying the problem isn't the ram and battery...more likely the battery controller circuit...but if you want to try I can't fault you. Only places I know to get a battery are APPLE, Ebay, or the websites that carry the aftermarket ones and I have never used one. I'm sure I'll be asking the same question in a year or two when I have to replace the battery in my 2010 Macbook Pro 13. Good luck.

We let it dry for about a week and when i tried starting it, it beeped 3 times. Swapped the ram around and removed one at a time and it turned on. I'm afraid you're going to be right about the circuit. I dont know if Apple will sell me a battery if I pester them enough. They keep pushing to take it to a service center.

They won't unless someone breaks the rules....major safety concern and liability due to the volatile nature of Lithium Ion batteries IF they are handled/installed improperly. Sometimes I wish Apple would have used standard 18650 Lithium cell battery packs because the individual 18650 cells are much easier to get and work with and they last a good while if they are new.
