It's a fucking joke. Sarcasm, you don't get it.

Why are you so upset over this? And what's the issue if it was for an old person that was lost? What if that was your grandmother that was lost?

I don't mind the message so much as the damn alert sound. It woke me up and I thought the god damn walls were coming down.

This. It plays a unique sound and vibrates for like 10 fucking seconds. There's no way to change it, so I just turned it off.

When I get an Amber alert for a child abduction at 3:00am I guess I am supposed to get out of bed and start looking for them?

Fact is, they changed phone setting with out any sort of permission from the owner, that sir is bullshit. The push stopped my work email from working until I could figure out what it changed.

                  Motorola Droid X:

                  Settings\Application Setting\Manage Applications\
                  Tap the All tab
                  Find "Emergency Alerts"
                  Force stop
                  Delete files

as much as you drive surely you know there is an old person "Lost" like every damn day... I don't want that many updates.

I do, but my grandmother also had Alzheimer's, and her wandering off happened more than I care to think about. I know firsthand how scary that is for the families and the elderly that go missing.

I'm on AT&T, and have not received any of these alerts as of yet, but I wouldn't mind them. There are a lot of people that drive as much as I do, and I think the awareness is a good thing. JMO, of course.

I agree that awareness is a good thing, but a normal vibrate and tone or at least the ability to customize vibrate and tone would make it worth turning back on.

so when you snag a target and are headed down the interstate you know immediately when the alert goes out and can swap vehicles? Cool!
