  • Push Notification for Amber Alerts?

Apparently Verizon just had an update for their customers' phones that allows very noisy/vibrationy alerts to be pushed to devices for Amber Alerts. I don't want these. Called Verizon and they said they cannot be turned off. WTF!?

I think you just turn emergency alerts off under settings. I just got that too.

This is what it is: http://www.fcc.gov/guides/commercial...rt-system-cmas

The CMAS registry has 61 carriers signed up, to date. 459 not signed up, and 15 "in part" signed up - Verizon is in this group.

As long as they aren't using it for missing old people, I could tolerate it.

Doesn't work. There's no option for that on Verizon phones, I guess.

              On their website.

              Wireless Emergency Alerts
              Wireless Emergency Alerts, also
known as CMAS or PLAN, is a U.S.
              national emergency alert system.
Emergency alerts can pop up to tell
you about a national or local crisis. After you close an
alert, you can reopen it by tapping Apps
              > Emergency Alerts.
Tip: Emergency alerts have a special sound and vibration
that is two seconds long, followed by one second, then
              another one second.
To choose which types of alerts you receive, tap Apps
              > Emergency Alerts > . The U.S. and local
governments send these alerts through your service
provider. So you will always receive alerts for the area
where you are, and you won’t receive alerts if you’re
              outside of the U.S

I noticed on my S3 I can disable all alerts except "Presidential Alert". And now I'm really fucking curious what a presidential alert would entail.
