  • Computer part???

I moved my spare computer and noticed a rattle. When I removed the cover I noticed this small metal cube broke off from what it was connected to, and was hanging from a clip. The other clip was missing as well. I googled a picture of the part and is posted below. Can anyone tell me what the part is and what its function is? I plugged it up and it still runs and works, but I know it cant be good. Thanks in advance

Its just the Internet Explorer chipset bridge, you should be fine. I would use Firefox.

You should be fine, Chrome however uses it as a filter for IE based content to increase site performance and to display the code correctly on the screen, but if you stick to firefox you wont have a problem as it uses the Mozilla tunnel based chipset ( its usually nearby, its open source ).

It won't crash because the heatsink is missing from one of the bridge chips. I mean it could, but it would take a while and have to be under really heavy load, and if it does let go, then you'll need a new motherboard.

                    Glue the sink back in.

You can buy some thermal epoxy for a few bucks. I personally would since an mch going through electromigration is a huuuge pita.
