Well the Kindle in factory form is VERY restrictive. Now it's a much better device overall. But yes, modding is addictive.

I guess it depends on what you're wanting out of it. It takes the standard, what I consider limited, OS and makes it a ton more customizable. I added Google Play and can do just about anything I want. I just did it today, so I really can't go into too much detail because I don't know what it can do quite yet.
