4.1.1 Yeah, I haven't even checked to see if any roms are out for the things yet, but I'm assuming they are.

you have to root to be able to tether, correct?

If you're on a grandfathered unlimited plan, they'll detect it and even you once then switch you to a tiered plan. I don't recommend doing it unless you know how much data you use on average and can afford switching.
