SSD bandwagon

Wife's macbook had some sectors go in the hard drive, so I put in a 256gb SanDisk Ultra +.

She was impressed on how fast it booted (8 seconds) and how fast her CS6 Master Suite apps load.

Luckily her model is a 2009 model, where the hard drive is located next to the battery under a removable panel.

The time was not spent physically replacing it, but recovering her files from her old hard drive.

Oh and I bought it for $85.00

What was all that stuff about them not lasting as long as HDDs because they only got so many reads/writes before they couldn't do it anymore? It was an early issue so it may be gone by now

I have a Dell Latitude E5510, and last year they asked if I wanted a new unit. I asked if the new unit would come with a SSD? They said no, I asked can I just get a SSD for the 5510? Another no, so I said I will wait.
Drives me nuts how a school district will spend $1k on a new PC, but will not spend less to make a faster one.

My home PC SSD specs; Two $59 each PNY 120GB SSDs in a raid 0. They do about the same as my one 120GB Sandisk, but now I don't have to worry about whats installed on the SSD. I need to try and see why it sets them to regular SATA and not SATAII.

They're starting to get so cheap that I'm looking to upgrade to one.

I've got about 600 gigs worth of information, is it possible to move over only the OS and applications and leave photos/movies/music on the HDD? Will the HDD require a reformat after moving the data over?

I know I'll need to go in and delete a bunch of programs that I don't use any longer and just generally tidy up.

It's about time for me to upgrade to a bigger SSD. I refuse to install anyone on my HDD anymore, so space is at a premium. But, I need a new screen first.

Listen up you terd nuggets. You don't need to buy a huge fucking SSD. 256GB is plenty enough. If you're running a laptop then get an external HD for that extra shit. If you are running a PC then get one SSD and install your OS and ONLY your OS on it, then install everything else, games, porn, music, EVERYTHING on another HD (7200,Raptor, or even another SSD) You're shit will run pretty fucking quick.

Now if you want to be pro, then get two 128 and raid them together and then get a 500 GB SDD and use that as your extra space HD.

512gb SSD's are only $212, that's ridiculously cheap. I think I paid $250 for my 128gb about a year ago.

Yeah 1tb evo's can be found for 400ish on sales. I remember when I bought my first SSD's, they were the intel 80gb g1's, I bought 4 of at the time to raid 0 them. Talk about early adopter price rape.
