  • Water Cooling Desktop

I am wanting to setup a watercooling station but I wondering what brands out there have what I am wanting to do.

My computer is in a custom built in desk which slides out but doesn't get a lot of airflow, so I want something I can put on top of the desk to maintain the water flow/air/level etc.

    Something like this, http://www.presence-pc.com/actualite...rius-III-3631/

The hoses will be between 2-4 foot long. it would also be cool if i could include my videocard as well.

I think your only real concern is having decent air and water flow to the rad. You can mount it wherever will net you good airflow provided you have a good pump.

I've water cooled just about everything for the better part of the last decade. I no longer water cool. But, I am selling just about everything you would need if you might be interested. The truth is water cooling is a pita. There is maintenance, checking water levels, and occasional leaks which cause unexpected system upgrades. The ONLY reason I would ever recommend someone water cool a system is if they want a dead silent computer, or the are overclocking to a ridiculous level. Outside of that it probably isn't a good idea. Air cooling has become much better than it use to be. One thing a lot of people who have never watercooled are surprised about is how hot it will get your room. You're essentially putting a heater in your room. Water captures and transfers heat much better than air. But, because of that it also releases heat a lot more effectively. It will increase the temperature of an average room 10 degrees or more, when I was water cooled I couldn't even sit in the room if it was in the summer, had to have multiple fans running to cool the room down, which defeats the sound purpose. But, like I said if you're looking to get into it, I have everything you would need. I've done submerged chilled systems, TEC, TEC water chiller systems, phase change systems, water systems, etc.. played with all of them. There are only few benefits to doing any one of them, and the truth is air cooling is the best choice.

edit: as a matter of fact I have that exact kit you're looking at - the coolermaster, it's one of the kits I have in a box. It's very tiny, and it's only good for a processor, not a full loop. If you put a GPU on that loop it would be CONSIDERABLY hotter than air cooling. As a matter of fact, a decent copper heatsink would outperform that kit. I would not even recommend it. It's also an aluminum rad and copper block, so it would require special fluid to prevent corrosion.

Ah, didn't know about all that. Yeah, it gets pretty hot now with just air moving. I think I will just cut into the back of it and installed a fan or two to circulate air.

I really think that is probably a better option for you. Watercooling is expensive as shit, a pain in the ass, and not worth it over air cooling. They DO make some pretty cheap CPU coolers that are literally a water block, two lines, and a rad. I've seen a few of them popping up as they seem to be better more popular, that might work for you. But forget about a loop.

yeah and mine sounds like a blender for the first 5 minutes it's on. I need to tear that thing down and replace the fan.

Yeah, My new slim is making a weird noise. Its still under warranty, I think I might send it in and get a new one.
Could you watercool an xbox. I know theres plenty of videos on youtube of people doing it and its running at like 80 degrees.

Sure you could, but why? It makes no sense to do it - it wouldn't be any quieter, and the chip is designed to operate at those high temps. I water cooled a switch one time, primarily because I was a dumbass nerd.

The most badass switch ever created. metallic blue/purple paint, LED's on the tx circuit, lexan window, watercooled. etc. etc. That's why I was a virgin.

God damnit. That was my only reason for water cooling, to reduce how much it can heat an area.

water cooling is not expensive and its not a hassle, i've done it for years. Its so much better on heat distribution too because the heat typically stays contained instead of heating up your house.

Have you fucking even done water cooling? It doesnt heat the room if any. Typically the ambient is enough to cool the water before it gets to the radiator and you're blowing ambient air around.
