This makes no sense. Unless you're comparing LTE to 3g data speeds.
In that case, your comparison applies to any phone when comparing those two different network technologies.

On my iPad 3, from the same location (my couch) sites seem to load quicker going from iOS 5.whatever to 6 over Verizon's cell network.

ipad3 has lte, the rest is perception. The difference isn't that great between 5 and 6 speeds.

No, it was still on IOS5 5.0.1 to be exact but I recently upgraded to IOS6 to sell it.
