I kept the packaging the Xbox came with and due to having two small children, 5 and 6, I've decided not to sit the game vertically. Instead I've put the packaging under the xbox to keep the side off the table surface and still keep it basically stable. (Almost had the 5 year old knock the thing over!)

So, after a year+ We've had no issues. However, it does get damn hot. My educational background is electronic design and I remember MUCH time, effort, and thought went into heat management. So, I'll be modifying my XBox 360 once the warranty is out. Has anyone else modified theirs? If so, let's see some pics.
Also, and yes I'm an idiot, but.... How long is factory warranty on these things?

Just put it out in the open with nothing obstructing airflow around it. Worse thing to do with any modern electronics is cram them into a closed up entertainment center. I have both my xbox and PS on the top of my AV shelves with nothing else around. Clean the dust off every once and while and Im good.

Mine were always out in the open. Got hot anyways. I got 3 xboxs now. One isnt really working right now. There other sometimes gets the rrod. And the new slim i have doesnt have a big memory. There i dont really use it for anything yet.

But the new slim froze on me when it wasnt even a month old. and felt like it got to hot even though it was out in the open. The other xbox i got had 2 fan mods, i converted the original fans to 12v instead 5v. and add a cpu fan on top of the box to pull hot air out.

I've come to the conclusion, after many years of use, that the Xbox is just a freaking piece of garbage. There is just no comparison between my xbox and my ps3. The OS is better, the online is FREE, the cooling issues that Microsoft can't seem to fix despite chip die shrinks... the list just goes on and on. The only thing that the xbox has over the ps3 is the controller and a few games. Some of which can be played on the PC. And you can get around the controller by converting the xbox controller to work with the PS3, which I've done. I hate the stupid Xbox, and next time around I doubt I'll be buying the next gen one. Unless they do some kind of serious philosophy change over at microsoft. Which they seemed to do between the original xbox, and the 360. My guess is it went something like "Hey lets take a rock solid platform with few problems, and take the next generation and just take a big elephant shit all over the whole thing."

Haha, Well this particular one hasn't. IT hasn't been taken apart yet. Well the case was off to be painted. But the Other one i have has been to hell and back. Been taken apart and put back together way too many times. lol. As you can see the top of this case is different then the rest. Its cause i cut a hole in the one i had that had been having very many problems. Since i wasn't using the other xbox, Id figure id put this top one and let it breath more. lol

I agree with you 100%. Although ive never played on a PS3 it seems they dont have any problems. But for some reason i stick with the xbox. Even though they fuck up usually.

Also, how can you tell your Xbox is overheating? I play the shit out of mine, it has had movies ran through it for tens of hours at a time (between me, my wife and kids) and have left it on until it auto-shuts off many times.

I've never had any cooling issues with any of my Xbox's and never used a cooler on them

I left my Xbox on for 3 weeks straight with no cooling problems and it's a first generation Elite.

Stanley, you forgot, the PS network went down for what, 3 weeks, because it was hacked with gamer information stolen? Hasn't happened on Xbox.
